We asked: “How can we preserve & elevate the beautiful features of the home?”
We worked with Fresh Air Designs to specify a cabinetry line (Linea by Cuisine Ideal) that integrates gracefully with the mid-century architecture. Concealed finger pulls keep the lines clean and shallow touch-latch cabinets under the countertop overhang add valuable additional storage.
Wanting to make a statement as guests enter the home, the cabinetry facing the dining table has a bold countertop design with a partial waterfall down the side — an effect we lovingly termed “the mullet”
The beautiful movement in this natural stone (quartzite) countertop suggests waves or blowing grasses—celebrating the natural world was an important aspect of this project
Built in wall cabinets with pass-through doors & drawers (openable from either side) adds useful additional storage
By wrapping the range hood in drywall we reduced it’s visual impact helping the space to feel lighter and brighter
By wrapping the windowsill with countertop material we created a perfect place for plants
Concealed toe-kick drawers specified by Fresh Air Designs added valuable storage to the limited kitchen footprint
Floating alder shelves that match the cabinetry in the kitchen tie the pantry and kitchen together
The warm tones of the alder wood reflect the aged pine and cedar wood tones throughout the house, and the linear decoration (tambour) on the cabinet fronts is a modern version of a mid-century look
We carefully maintained existing, characterful details like these built-in glass display shelves that catch the light from the windows
